Accommodation in Malta
Like many of the islands within the Mediterranean accommodation in Malta is very much geared towards the tourist market. There is a very wide range of tourist accommodation in Malta and there is something suitable for everyone whether your budget is large or small.
For people wishing to maintain total independence and flexibility during their holiday, and keep costs as low as possible, then there is a good choice of furnished apartments available for rent in all of the main tourist towns. Larger families or groups looking for accommodation on a similar board basis may well be attracted to one of the holiday villas which are now also commonly available. The added attraction to this option is that holiday villas often come with a swimming pool.
If you are looking for something a little different and maybe more luxurious then you might want to consider renting a high-quality farmhouse on the island of Gozo. Farmers and landowners on this beautiful island have not been slow over the past few years in recognising a commercial opportunity. To this end many derelict old
farmhouses and out-buildings have been converted into very luxurious accommodation units providing the ultimate self-catering option.
Should you be looking to spend as little as you can on accommodation, maybe saving the cash for use on holiday activities, then a guesthouse or hostel may be the answer. Both types of accommodation are available in Malta although they do get snapped up pretty quickly so speed of booking is the answer here. These are the cheapest forms of accommodation in Malta so expect cleanliness but not the height of luxury.
One thing Malta is not short of when it comes to accommodation options is hotels. There are now a great number available and with the grading system of 1 to 5 stars, as found everywhere else in the world, it is easy to make your selection based on your budget and expectation of service levels. Tourist operators tend to only feature hotels of 3 stars and above so if that does not satisfy your requirements you may have to carry out some independent research. Having said that our partner Booking.com does have a selection of 2 star hotels available.
Hotels in Malta vary greatly both from the aspect of location and character. Many of the older hotels are situated right in the heart of the towns and tourist resorts providing quick access to all the sites and activities that Malta has to offer. At the other end of the scale the more modern hotels tend to be situated closer to the sea and to the wide range of water based activities which are available. Due to the small geographic size of Malta however, very few of the hotels, with a couple of exceptions, are situated very far at all from the centres of activity so you need not be worried about being remote or cut-off.
Whatever your choice of accommodation therefore you will be spoilt for choice in Malta. Its popularity is ever increasing however, so if you do wish to secure your first choice of accommodation in Malta then the advice is quite simple – book early!
