Lying on the northern part of Malta and 13 miles from Valletta is this picturesque hill top village called Mellieha. Its location on the high ridge provides the scenic view of the island exhibiting the mystic beauty of the countryside. As far as one can see, a long bay stretches itself down the hill twisting and turning along the cliffs and rocky surfaces. Looking further north the towns of Gozo and Camino can be located. The village is surrounded by rich fertile soil and valleys

Mellieha village showcases more modern planning of the roads and streets. Some of the best villas can be found on Mellieha which are as important for Mellieha’s pride as its natural beauty and surroundings. The place is full of options for accommodations ranging from magnificent hotels, majestic bungalows, holiday apartments and villas. There are some very good fine dining restaurants available here. Town centre boasts some trendy shops for a light shopping experience. Most of them sell tourist souvenirs.

The village’s mega attraction is the imperial Baroque architecture example constructed in the center of the village, the Baroque Church. The church was built in the 19th century. Grotto is another must visit place in Mellieha. This is the cave shrine dedicated to Madonna. This is more of an adventure ride with spring flowing in the heart of the cave which could be reached by further going down thorugh the steps.

Selmun Palace is the stunning palace built on the tip of the rigde. The main features of the palace are its baroque architecture, elaborate balcony and an escutcheon marking the entrance to the palace. This eye captivating construction was built in 18th century and can be seen from nearby coastal areas. Tunnara Museum is an old fortification built by the Knights to defend the bay in 1716.

Mellieha village is not far from water activities. Mellieha Bay, the largest sandy bay runs down the Mellieah village. It is at a distance of 1Km from the village. The vast spread of golden sand and shallow waters along with the presence of life saving guards has made the Mellieha Bay a complete family spot. Water activities like parasailing, boat riding, water skiing are popular here along with swimming. The place is crowded with restaurant, fast food outlets and bars. Some of the big hotels are also established at the seafront.

Mellieha is the home for various religious and cultural activities. There are many cultural organizations like band clubs, orchestra party and sports clubs. Societies like Environmental Pressure Group and Parish community are also prevalent here. The region is known for its grand festivities too. The Village Festa is one mega event in the month of September. This two weeks cultural festival consists of musical shows, concerts, fireworks and arts exhibition and reaches its zenith on the 8th of September each year.

People of Mellieha are friendly and welcoming and make tourists feel at home. The place is well connected through regular ferry services to Gozo and Bus service to Valletta. Bus No. 44, 49 and 452 can be taken to reach Mellieha from Valletta and back.
